Protect our Oceans from Industrial Fish Farming

Protect the Gulf of Mexico from dirty, dangerous fish farming.

As you read this, plans are being made to open up the treasured Gulf of Mexico to dirty and dangerous commercial-scale fish farming for the first time. But we can stop it, with your help.

The powerful Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is meeting to set the path for a dangerous new practice: commercial-scale fish farming in our oceans.

This largely untested commercial-scale threatens the safety of our food, hurts the marine environment, and endangers the livelihoods of fishing communities that depend on healthy wild fish to make a living. The Council needs to hear from you now.

Can you send an email to Gulf leaders telling them to stop the giveaway of our oceans?

The communities around the Gulf are still reeling from the natural disaster of Katrina as well as the pathetic recovery efforts and discrimination that followed. The Council must be told that fishing communities and the public need more time to weigh in.

Because the Council’s decision will set a precedent for the rest of the nation, all of us should make our voices heard. The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council rarely hears from the public, so a flood of comments right now will have a big impact.

Write a personal letter to protect our oceans from dirty and dangerous commercial-scale fish farms.
