ALERT: Ask Congress for Country Of Origin Labeling on Food
Do you know where your food is coming from? Support Country of Origin labeling.
The amount of our food that is imported increases every year. Yet the government inspects only a tiny percentage of imported food.
Consumer groups and family farmers have been fighting for years to require mandatory country-of-origin-labeling (COOL) on meat, fruits, and vegetables in the United States. Many other countries have these labeling rules, and the U.S. already requires seafood to be labeled. Mandatory COOL enables consumers to make informed decisions about the food they eat, and allows domestic farmers and ranchers to differentiate their product from imports. However, the meat, grocery, and food processing industries want to keep consumers in the dark, and have spent millions trying to delay this program or kill it outright.
