After Community Opposition, Nestlé Drops Plan for Spring Creek Plant
For Immediate Release
The international bottled water corporation Nestlé announced late yesterday that it was dropping a plan to withdraw massive quantities of groundwater and build a bottling plant in Spring or Benner Township.
The following statement was released by Sam Bernhardt, Pennsylvania Director at Food & Water Watch:
“The overwhelming community opposition to Nestlé’s Spring Creek scheme sent the company a clear message: Our water is not yours for the taking. This is great news for maintaining the health and vitality of the Spring Creek Watershed, but Nestlé still has its sights set on a major extraction project in Centre County.
In the past two years, communities from the Pacific Northwest to Kunkletown, PA, have fought Nestlé —and won. The grassroots power that turned Nestlé away this week will continue to resist this corporation’s attempts to turn precious groundwater into polluting plastics and runaway profits.”
