Californians Against Fracking Applauds Marin Supervisors' Resolution Against Fracking
San Rafael, Calif.— “350Marin thanks Supervisors Kate Sears, Steve Kinsey and the whole Marin County Board of Supervisors on passing a strong resolution in support of a moratorium on fracking. The unconventional extraction methods, like fracking, that Big Oil wants to experiment with in California will keep us from reaching the greenhouse gas emission reduction goals Governor Schwarzenegger set for our state in his climate bill in 2006,” said Ken Jones of 350Marin. “Today, Marin County has shown great leadership in fighting to protect California from the greed of our subsidized oil and gas corporations and the damage to our health and environment that they cause and that we subsequently pay for as taxpayers.”
“With a unanimous vote (5-0), the Marin County Board of Supervisors sent a clear message to Governor Brown that we need to put the brakes on fracking in California,” said Adam Scow, California Campaigns director for the consumer advocacy group Food & Water Watch. “Food & Water Watch is proud to be part of a growing movement of businesses, farmers, health care professionals and environmentalists that recognize we cannot allow fracking in the Golden State. Only a statewide moratorium on fracking will ensure that the water we drink and the air we breathe are protected. Our energy future lies with renewable energy and efficiency and today Marin County took a stand in support of that vision.”
Californians Against Fracking is a coalition of environmental, business, consumer, health, agriculture, labor, political, and environmental justice organizations working to win a statewide ban on fracking in California.
