Construction Stopped on Major New Gas Pipeline in Burlington County

For Immediate Release
Today, Burlington County issued an order to stop construction on the New Jersey Natural Gas SRL pipeline.
The order calls on the company and any affiliated contractors to cease and desist all pipeline-related work on county roads, bridges and other structures until further notice. The order documents that unpermitted horizontal directional drilling was taking place under two structures on Province Line Road.
Food & Water Action New Jersey state director Matt Smith issued the following statement:
“For years local residents and officials have been fighting to keep their neighborhoods safe from the dirty, dangerous and unnecessary SRL fracked gas pipeline. In recent weeks they have been calling on Governor Murphy to stop construction during the COVID-19 crisis, since the project isn’t needed to continue utility service, and ongoing construction during the state of emergency has put residents and workers at increased risk. The SRL pipeline would also increase our state’s reliance on dirty fossil fuels, which is totally incompatible with Governor Murphy’s climate and clean energy policies, and would increase the same air pollution that is making New Jersey more vulnerable to the Coronavirus. The governor should take this opportunity to protect public health and safety by stopping this fracked gas pipeline once and for all.”
