Cuomo Can Take Immediate Clean Energy Action
For Immediate Release
Following Governor Cuomo’s Green New Deal proposal, Food & Water Watch Northeast Region Director Alex Beauchamp released the following statement:
"There is no doubt that the grassroots climate movement has successfully pushed Governor Cuomo to stake out more aggressive policies to confront the climate crisis. But if the governor intends to meet his new goals, there are immediate actions he must take: Stopping the Williams fracked gas pipeline in New York Harbor and a series of new fracked gas power plants across the state. Governor Cuomo must exercise executive authority, and instruct his agencies, to oppose any new fossil fuel projects proposed in the state.
"While the governor’s plan remains largely aspirational, there is bold legislation—the NY Off Fossil Fuels Act—to get the state to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, create thousands of new jobs in renewables and energy efficiency, and provide meaningful support for communities impacted by fossil fuel pollution."
