EPA’s Chemical Negligence Shows Need for Cuomo to Act on Clean Water
For Immediate Release
Politico is reporting that the Trump administration is planning to refuse to issue drinking water contamination limits for the toxic chemicals PFOA and PFOS.
Food & Water Watch Senior Organizer Nisha Swinton issued the following statement in response:
“The Trump administration’s refusal to protect our drinking water from dangerous chemicals only underscores the urgent need for the Cuomo administration to take action to protect New Yorkers.
“The recent recommendations on maximum contaminant limits for PFOA and PFOS from the state’s Drinking Water Quality Council are a good first step. It is up to the Department of Health to quickly develop the rules that will make those recommendations enforceable.
“As with so many other issues of environmental protection and public health, it is up to state and local governments to play the role that has been abdicated by the Trump administration. Cuomo can protect New Yorkers’ access to safe, clean drinking water by setting enforceable standards to reduce the levels of these toxic chemicals this year.”
