For Immediate Release
During a radio interview last night, Governor Phil Murphy announced for the first time that he was opposed to the Meadowlands power plant.
In response, Food & Water Action senior organizer Matt Smith released the following statement:
"Governor Murphy’s statement is welcome news for the nearby communities threatened by the air pollution from this plant, and for the broader fight against climate chaos. Any sane climate policy must start with the rejection of new fossil fuel projects.”
"While the governor declared this decision came as an 'epiphany,' the real credit goes to the grassroots activists who have pushed him to stand up for clean air and a livable climate. In this moment of climate emergency, there are so many heroes and sheroes of all ages who are getting organized and building an unstoppable political movement for clean air and a livable future."
"We applaud Governor Murphy and urge him to take the next logical step: an immediate moratorium on all new fossil fuel projects.”
