Tallahassee, FL - While Governor Rick Scott declares himself an environmental hero due to his opaque opposition to offshore drilling, he’s continuing to line his pockets with top oil and gas executive money. His fundraiser today in Oklahoma was a peak demonstration that Gov Scott cannot be trusted to put clean water and public health above Big Oil & Gas. It remains doubtful that Scott will follow through on any of his environmental claims, especially as he continues to accept big campaign dollars from the ‘Drill Baby Drill’ crowd.
The fundraiser comes as no surprise. Scott’s oil and gas record during his 8 years as governor has been very favorable to the industry:
- Scott’s Administration has approved oil drilling and exploration permits in sensitive areas like Big Cypress National Preserve
- Scott supported and even bankrolled the Sabal Trail fracked gas pipeline
- Despite vast bipartisan and statewide support for a fracking ban, Governor Scott has yet to pass the ban
Scott can attempt political stunts like his insincere effort to stop drilling off of Florida’s coast, but he has spent the last 8 years making clear his true intentions: to do Big Oil & Gas’s bidding.
