Local Opposition Stymies Franklin Park Fracking Plan
For Immediate Release
This evening, the Franklin Park Borough Council voted down a proposal to sign a lease that would allow Penn Energy to frack Linbrook Park.
Food & Water Watch Western Pennsylvania Liaison Doug Shields issued the following statement:
“Residents of Franklin Park got organized, spoke up, and got results. The plan to frack Linbrook Park was unpopular and unwise, and citizens were able to send that message to a council that had tried to shut them out of the decision-making process. The next step will be to pass a new zoning ordinance that protects the community from fracking.
“This was a great lesson in how local democracy should work, and how an informed citizenry must be involved in the drilling decisions that municipalities are confronting across Pennsylvania.”
