Nestlé Has No Place on Maine's Board of Environmental Protection
For Immediate Release
On Wednesday, the Joint Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources will hold a confirmation hearing to consider the nomination of Poland Spring employee Mark Dubois for a seat on the state’s Board of Environmental Protection.
In response, Food & Water Watch Northeast Senior Organizer Nisha Swinton released the following statement:
“Protecting and preserving Maine’s precious water supply is at the core of many of the battles over environmental protection in the state. Granting decision-making power to an employee of a multi-national bottled water company whose business practices have drawn massive public opposition and controversy is more than just an obvious conflict of interest--it is an attempt to put corporate profits over public health and the protection of natural resources. State lawmakers must reject Governor Paul LePage’s effort to give Nestlé even more control over Maine’s water resources.”
