Ojai takes Major Step Towards Reclaiming Public Control of Water System
Oakland, Calif. – “Food & Water Watch congratulates Ojai Friends of Locally Owned Water (FLOW) and all the ratepayers of Ojai for their remarkable victory yesterday towards bringing their water system under local public control.
“Fed up with ridiculously high rates and substandard service provided by Golden State Water Company, Ojai citizens passed a bond measure to purchase the system with an overwhelming 87 percent majority, despite Golden State Water Company spending thousands to fight FLOW and mislead voters. Ojai ratepayers have fought long and hard to buy back what is rightfully theirs and this vote is a huge step towards making that happen.
“Ojai’s victory will undoubtedly inspire other communities across the country who are making similar efforts to reclaim local, public control of their water systems.”
