Statement by Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch
Washington, D.C.— “Governor Brown’s decision to back out of this wrongheaded deal is a hard-won victory for the communities in Hood River County that have waged a nine-year battle to keep Nestlé from seizing their water. Governor Brown’s action upholds the will of Hood River County voters, who 18 months ago overwhelmingly passed a ballot measure to ban commercial water bottling. Food & Water Watch will continue to support communities in Oregon and around the country that face this kind of corporate grab of public water.
Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment.
