Rex Tillerson Out at State Department
Statement by Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch
Washington, D.C. – “Although the Trump administration is packed with billionaires and industry lobbyists, we can’t say we’re surprised to see Rex Tillerson’s stilted and awkward tenure as Secretary of State end. America’s premier oil and gas booster should have no role in U.S. diplomacy at a time when we urgently need to transition off of fossil fuels.”
“Likewise, Mike Pompeo is a climate denier and should not be leading the State Department. He’s been referred to as ‘the Koch Brothers’ Congressman.’ He also authored legislation that preempted state GMO labeling laws, and would likely continue the U.S. state department’s role in promoting genetically modified crops around the world.
“We urge the Senate to reject his nomination.”
Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment.
