Trump’s “Energy Dominance” Speech in Two Words: More Fracking
Statement by Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch
Washington, D.C. -- “In an effort to distract from the healthcare debacle, Trump is turning to his energy agenda, and doubling down on his fossil fuel vision for America. Today, Trump proclaimed that he’ll make the country ‘energy dominant’ by exporting extreme energy from fracked gas. We’ve known for years that this is the intention of the industry, with its buildout of pipeline and LNG export infrastructure, even while it promoted its dubious ‘energy independence’ message. Now, the intention is clear: frack American communities so that the industry can continue profiting from energy exports, while emissions continue to cook the climate.
“A better vision for American energy exists, but it isn’t coming from the White House. Climate leadership and the transition to renewable energy will come from the local and state level, and we must continue to pressure elected officials around the country to commit to a transition to a clean energy future, starting now.”
Food & Water Watch champions healthy food and clean water for all. We stand up to corporations that put profits before people, and advocate for a democracy that improves people’s lives and protects our environment.
