Veolia to be Held Accountable for Role in Flint Water Crisis
Statement of Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter
Washington, D.C.—“Today, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced a lawsuit against Veolia Environnement and Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam for their roles in the Flint water crisis. Both companies are being accused of negligence and fraud. Food & Water Watch applauds this move to hold the companies accountable for their involvement in the terrible crisis that caused the unconscionable poisoning of thousands of Flint residents.
“Veolia, the largest for-profit water service company in the world, has a terrible track record with a long history of problems, from over-billing customers to poor performance and willful misconduct. This development once again highlights that for-profit entities such as Veolia should have no role in the provision of drinking water.”
