We were first introduced to Food & Water Watch during an effort to maintain local control of the publicly owned water system in our area. We have continued to support the efforts of FWW as they lobby for the best interests of the people of this planet.

BP’s Meddling Halts Food & Water Watch Lawsuit Against Feds

Statement of Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter

Washington, D.C.—”Due to BP’s intervention in Food & Water Watch’s request for a temporary injunction to halt production on the company’s Atlantis platform, we have decided to dismiss our current lawsuit against the U.S. Minerals Management Service (MMS). This Plaintiff’s Notice of Dismissal Without Prejudice will temporarily suspend our case against MMS until we can re-file it to include both MMS and BP in the suit.

“With oil still gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, it is a shame that BP is spending valuable time and resources to block our efforts to protect the Gulf from another potential calamity. Rather than resorting to delay tactics, BP should be focusing its attention on the mess it has made there, and on ensuring the safe operation of its Atlantis platform. MMS on its part should complete its investigation of Atlantis in days, rather than months.

“In the meantime, we are asking the new MMS chief Michael Bromwich to meet with us and agree to take action and close BP Atlantis until it is proven safe.”
