You make these food, water, and climate victories possible! Thank you!

Your passion for protecting the planet and the people you love is changing lives.

This list of recent accomplishments shows that together, we are building a world where everyone has sustainable food, clean water, and a livable climate. Each stride forward is a testament to your generosity. Thank you for fighting like you live here!

Every journey is accomplished step by step. These successes prove that when we work together, one milestone at a time, there is nothing we can’t achieve.

Victories to Celebrate

Here are six recent wins you made possible!

  1. Allowing fossil fuel drilling near homes and schools will not be up for a vote in California this November! Big Oil industry group California Independent Petroleum Association dropped a ballot measure challenge to California’s historic law that bans oil drilling within 3,200 feet of homes, schools, and businesses. Without the ballot measure, the law can now go into effect.

This decision comes as a direct result of pressure and public opposition to the measure generated by frontline communities across the state working alongside Food & Water Watch and allies. We’re one big step closer to protecting California communities from new oil drilling projects.

  2. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit reversed the federal approvals for the Regional Energy Access Expansion (REAE) fossil fuel expansion project in New Jersey. This is an incredible victory for the people of New Jersey who organized against this dirty, dangerous, and unnecessary fracked gas pipeline project, and a great example of how our legal and organizing teams work together to fight new fossil fuel projects.

  3. The Farm Bureau made a dangerous play to gut Factory Farm Water Pollution Regulations. Our legal team ensured the Michigan Supreme Court rejected this effort. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled in Michigan Farm Bureau v. Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) that the state has the authority to rein in factory farm pollution as necessary to protect water quality in Michigan.

The decision is a win for all those working to protect the environment and public health through stronger water quality permits for factory farms. Food & Water Watch and our allies submitted a “friend of the court” brief to the Supreme Court opposing the Farm Bureau’s arguments and have intervened in a parallel case in Michigan to defend strong permits going forward.

  4. The New York legislature passed the Climate Change Superfund Act, which would hold Big Oil responsible for paying for the damages caused by climate-fueled disasters. While we are still pushing for Governor Hochul to formally sign this bill into law, its passage in both legislative bodies is a huge step forward for polluter accountability.

As climate-supercharged disasters grow worse with every passing year, it has never been more important that we have funding to respond and rebuild in their wake.

  5. After years of organizing, this May saw the final blow for the Williams Northeast Supply Enhancement pipeline project in New York. Williams announced it would no longer seek federal permits, signaling the end of the project. This victory sends yet another clear message that New Yorkers refuse more gas infrastructure, and it’s a great example of how we see stopping these big infrastructure projects through to the end.

  6. Food & Water Watch published hard-hitting research detailing how forest carbon offset projects across the country are at risk. As wildfires become more common and more extreme in a climate-changing world, forests — and the carbon they store — are at risk of literally going up in smoke, making offsets even more of a climate scam than they already are.

The research piece illustrates what we’ve known all along: the only way to solve the climate crisis is to stop burning dirty fossil fuels and make the switch to 100% renewable energy.

Thank you for making these milestones possible!
