Governor Murphy can still stop the widely opposed polluting scheme

The Murphy administration’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued an environmental justice approval to a plan to build a fracked gas power plant at the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission (PVSC) facility in Newark.

The proposal to add a new source of air and climate pollution in an overburdened community has generated substantial and sustained opposition from residents and elected officials across the state.

Food & Water Watch New Jersey State Director Matt Smith issued the following statement:

“The decision from the Murphy administration to approve what will be the fourth dirty gas power plant in Newark’s Ironbound community betrays the Governor’s promise of clean air for all New Jerseyans. This polluting scheme has been widely opposed by local residents, community leaders, dozens of elected officials and important political figures in our state – including First Lady Tammy Murphy and Senate candidate Andy Kim. Governor Murphy must immediately reverse course and deny this project, or watch his green credentials go up in smoke.”
