Volunteers Make A Difference
Building people power to win fights some say are un-winnable — that’s our strength. It takes volunteers like you to do that.

GINNY K. FOUGHT SUNOCO AFTER THEY LIED TO HER
Jesse V. started volunteering with Food & Water Action when he saw the air quality in his hometown of Oxnard, CA destroyed by fracking and pesticides.
Working with our regional Organizing Director, volunteers like Jesse and community allies helped pass an ordinance for 2500 and 1500 ft. buffer zones from oil wells for schools and homes, respectively, and other wins against fracking in Ventura County.
Jesse knew he had to get involved when he learned that the strawberry fields he used to run laps in to practice for track were heavily sprayed with pesticides, and may have played a role in adult-onset asthma. When he learned about the effects the rampant fracking in the region had on air quality, he felt it was his duty to find an organization he could team up with to defeat the polluters in Ventura County.
When asked why he chose Food & Water Action to volunteer with, he cited the guidance and inspiration he drew from our Central Coast Organizing Director, Tomás Rebecchi, and an underlying sense of responsibility.
“I knew I needed to fight back. You can defeat these industries — it takes people power.”
