100 Political Pledges - and Counting - to Move America OFF Fossil Fuels!

Since launching Food & Water Action’s OFF Fossil Fuels program just two months ago, more than 100 elected officials from across the country have signed the OFF pledge, committing to oppose new fossil fuel development and work to transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy in their communities by 2035.
At the urging of committed OFF activists, city and county council members, mayors and state legislators in over twenty states have now signed the pledge. Food & Water Action volunteers have been working tirelessly to hold their politicians accountable to ensure a clean energy future, and more are joining this campaign every day.
Michael Winkler, a city council member from Arcata, California explains why he signed the OFF pledge: “For the past 25 years, both as an energy professional and as an elected leader, my number one priority has been to move my community toward 100% renewable and sustainable local energy… I believe in strength-in-numbers and joining with other local elected leaders to move our communities away from fossil fuels to sustainable local energy.”
“We must fight [climate change] and fight hard,” said Len Resto, a councilman from Chatham Borough, NJ. “I blasted Trump over pulling out of the Paris Climate Change Accord. They must continue to know we’re not sitting still until the next president comes along. That is why I signed the pledge.”
It’s unfortunately clear that we can’t expect bold climate action from the federal government anytime soon. But we can make huge strides at the state and local levels, and the OFF Fossil Fuels pledge is the beginning of that process. Asking elected officials to support climate solutions at every level of government - from the smallest town hall to the halls of Congress - will build the power of our movement and help create a new, strong, progressive political establishment in the years to come.
Food & Water Action’s OFF volunteer activists are growing the movement to get our country off fossil fuels, beginning today. Town by town, city by city, county by county and state by state, we are building the Clean Energy Revolution!
